http://www.teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/BCPPY160?referringRepId=248257

If you and I were friends back in college than you know how much I love Chalene Johnson.  Her program Turbo Jam started my love of at-home fitness programs.  She's motivating, fun, and a skilled personal trainer.  Turbo Jam was a fun kickboxing workout set to Hip-Hop music.  I think the dancer and cheerleader in me loved that aspect of the workout.  Chalene has several programs, written various personal development books and travels around as a motivational speaker and entrepreneur.  PiYo is her latest and greatest achievement and it has stemmed from a lifetime of rigorous physical activity.  She said in recent speech that her body was "beat up" and that she was suffering from Injuries.  Creating PiYo was her solution.

It is remarkable combinations of of low impact moves and high intensity to improve your flexibility, stamina, and strength.  It is yoga and Pilates inspired but it performing the moves all together gives you a great cardio workout too.

You will see defined muscles and core strength without all of the jumping or lifting of weights. It is a perfect workout for anyone even if you have mobility problems, joint soreness or any past injuries that have created limitations.

This month I have organized a group to begin PiYo on Monday and I am currently looking for 5 more people to form another group starting on July 14th.  orders must be placed by July 7th so order this weekend.  Trust me after the fun holiday you will want to know that you have made arrangments to start PiYo with a group to hold you accountable.

The following is taken from the Beachbody site:

Introducing PiYo, a high-intensity, low-impact workout for a new kind of STRONG.
Chalene Johnson took the very best Pilates- and yoga-inspired moves and cranked up the speed to give you full-throttle cardio, strength, and flexibility training—all at once. PiYo packs it ALL into each workout so you can build lean muscle mass—as you're burning crazy calories.
Now you can carve every inch of your body.
How? You'll use your body weight to perform a series of continuous, targeted moves, to burn fat as you redefine every single muscle. No weights. No jumps. Just hardcore results.
The result? Problem areas become no problem. You can get sleek, long arms; sexy, flat abs; a tight, lifted butt; and the confidence that comes from knowing you're at your best!
This is your chance to define exactly how you want to look—and how you want to feel. You're in control.
You have the power to define yourself.
Now use it.

"PiYo gives you hardcore definition, intense calorie burn, and allover strength—without weights, without jumps, and without destroying your body."
—Chalene Johnson, creator of PiYo

What is PiYo?
From celebrity trainer Chalene Johnson, PiYo is a low-impact, high-intensity 60-day body transformation program. It uses the most effective pilates and yoga inspired moves set to a fast pace to help burn fat and sculpt long, lean muscles.  Carve every inch of the body without jumps, weights, or strained joints.

PiYo is for: Men and women who want to get the results of an extreme program without the jumps, weights, or joint strain. This program is perfect for people of all fitness levels; people who want to build lean muscle without the bulk; those who love the benefits of pilates and yoga, but feel these programs lack the cardio they need to burn fat and calories; and  people who want a workout that doesn't require a lot of equipment.

Brave Moms Make Brave Kids

Jack and I in Venice (Sept 2013)

It's been two months since I last blogged.  What have I been doing?  I spent 2 weeks parading around Europe and returned home to catch and recover from the flu.  Then, I visited family in the Ohio Valley and most recently had the pleasure of attending Momcon, a convention for members of the faith based group, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers).

I'm not sure what the proper blogging protocol is.  Do I go back and talk about these great experiences or move forward?  Today I move forward.

When I moved to Minnesota I joined a local moms group called MOPS.  It stands for Mothers of Preschoolers but it is for any woman who is the mother of a child ages 0 to 5 years old.  MOPS has been a great way for me to meet new people and share stories with others who are also going through this crazy roller coaster called mothering.  Last winter it was a lifesaver for me and one of the only times that I got out of the house during the week.  At the end of the summer I was contacted by the steering committee and asked to fill the role of Publicity Coordinator.  I was happy to join steering and I feel blessed that I was also able to attend MOMcon last weekend.

Our New Ulm MOPS crew at MOMcon

A highlight for me from MOMCon is something that speaker Jen Hatmaker said, "Brave moms make brave kids."  She also said that "we need to parent diligently but not fearfully because fear can make an already hard job of mothering harder still."  I think that so much if being a mom today can involve worrying about everything in our children's lives.  We spend much time trying to make our children feel safe and comfortable but we forget that we don't want them to grow up to be safe and comfortable, we want them to grow up to be BRAVE, to go forth in God's power and not be scared to make a difference in the world!

So I'm not going to worry so much for my kids anymore.  But I am going to show them how I am not afraid because fear hold us back and I am all about moving forward.

New Goals:
1. PLAY one new song every week.
2. CREATE one new art project every week
3. EXERCISE 6 times a week
4. LEARN something new about myself by reading personal development and devotional books daily
5. PRACTICE everyday to be a better person and set a good example to my children

As it turns out there was a MOPS meeting this morning but the kids and I woke up sick so we stayed home and learned this new song instead.  We are in love with the album "Good Morning my Love" by Vered.  Here am I singing the song "Sunday."  Like I said, I'm sick, so my voice is scratchy and it has been so long since I played guitar that I no longer have calluses on my fingers.  But, oh well!  I can only get better and I have to start somewhere.

The Game Changer

visit my website
KelseySchott.com

Exercising goes way back for me.  I remember when I was in the first grade my sister Jana and I would get up at 6 am to do "Mousercise" from the Disney Channel.  From there it progressed to Tamilee Webb's "Buns of Steel" videos in the 6th grade.  I loved dancing, sports, and running.  By the time I was in high school I began drinking meal replacement shakes and have been off and on ever since.

I thought this pear shape that I have was just apart of me, genetic.  My thighs have been jiggling and rubbing together since age 12.  "So what?" I thought, "That's just me."  I knew there wasn't anything more or better that I could be doing because I was exercising and eating healthy.

The thought occurred to me two days ago that I have never been this thin or felt this good.  I had to make a emergency trip to Target on Monday night to buy size 2 jeans and Xsmall workout pants.  I have actually been having trouble keeping them up during my runs.  Never in my life have I worn extra small anything and for once there is a slight space between my thighs.

I turn 29 next month, I have two kids and I am in the best shape of my life, better than in high school.  The one difference in my life is not the level of exercise that I am doing it's the Shakeology that I have been drinking every day since April.  Shakeology has been a game changer for me.  The health benefits in that one nutrient dense drink are amazing.  Even if I get slightly off track on my diet I am still able to maintain my weight.  The stats on that one single drink are hard to believe: 9 serving of fruits and veggies, all the daily recommended vitamins and over 70 additional super foods.  Perhaps what even more amazing is what isn't in Shakeology: no GMOs, no preservatives, no chemicals and no animal products (if you choose vegan).

People believe that "protein shakes" are synonymous with Shakeology.  But no shake product even comes to Shakeology and what it does to fuel your body with dense clean nutrition. No GNC product, Gym product or grocery store "meal replacement" shake can compare.  It comes with a "bottom of the bag money back guarantee" so it's risk free to try.
Watch this 3 minute video and hear what Beachbody's CEO Carl Daikeler says about drinking it every day.

Shakelogy Explained

When I first started Insanity I thought that I could complete the program without drinking shakeology.  Being the frugal person that I am, I didn't want to have to purchase anything additionally.  So I set off on my Insane fitness journey thinking my healthy breakfasts of oatmeal and berries would be enough but it wasn't and I failed fast.  My energy level was so low that completing the workouts was nearly impossible.  My form got sloppy and I ended up injuring my ankles.  My first insanity attempt lasted 2 weeks before I quit.

After staring at the DVD set for a few months and moving it around from various clutter piles to other piles.  I decided that I was tired of looking at the pictures of the crazy sweaty people on the cover because it was an example of something that I had quit.  I hate quitting!  So I set the goal to finish the program and do it right.  I wanted to limit my risk of failure so I finally purchased Shakeology.

Wow! It actually worked.  I had enough energy to keep pushing play everyday.  I was filling my body with necessary nutrients that in our society we can't help to be lacking.  I had more energy and I was losing weight quick!  Only 3 weeks into the programs I was already into my pre-pregnancy jeans.  I hadn't worn those things since 2011!!

Something else was happening too.  I realized that it was actually easier for me to make a shake in the morning than to cook myself breakfast.  Mornings can be super crazy here.  I am nursing one baby and fixing (and forcing) food to the other oh yeah and you can't forget the dog.

My next new discovery was the shaker cup.  Yes, you can get fancy in the blender adding fruit or nut butters and I really like having the 30 day calendar with a whole months worth of recipe ideas, but truthfully I just want to eat first thing in the morning.  I don't want to deal with a bunch of extra dishes to wash and I especially hate cleaning the blender.  So instead I put 8 ounces of vanilla almond milk and one scoop of Shakeology in the cup and bam!  Breakfast of served.  It's quick, it's sweet and it's filling.

So what makes Shakeology different?  Because I know what you are thinking. "Why can't I just go to Sam's club and buy the giant jug of generic protein powder?"  The difference is not in the amount of protein. It is in the health benefits of super foods like chia seeds, acai berry, pomegranate and wheat grass. It is also organic with no GMO's with probiotics which aid digestion. You would have to spend a lot of money on exotic fruits, vegetables and supplements to compare to Shakeology.

So what is Shakeology?
Shakeology is the most delicious, nutrient-dense, superfood-packed protein shake on the planet. It’s made with the healthy stuff you should be eating every day, but typically don’t. Shakeology’s the perfect combination of proteins, phytonutrients, antioxidants, enzymes, prebiotics, and probiotics. Plus, it also contains many rare ingredients, including adaptogens, camu-camu, and sacha inchi—things we can’t get from an ordinary diet. So whether you use Shakeology for weight loss, or drink it to optimize your health, this powerful and delicious shake is your daily dose of dense nutrition.

How To Get Your Workout In With 2 Kids Under 2

If you thought Insanity was hard try it with a baby and toddler in the room.  In my three on-going challenge groups many of the participants are parents of young children.  It can be extremely difficult to fit in a workout when you have little ones that need so much attention.  I feel for my challengers who are trying hard to exercise and eat right but are having trouble making it all work.  I get asked often how I exercise at home with the kids.   Here is a list of tricks that I use in order to make sure I exercise 6 times a week.

1. Put your exercise clothes on early.
2. Put then in a bumbo, bouncer seat, exersaucer, jumperoo etc.  and give them a book or crayons and paper.
3  Floor time with toys or play the "Crawl to Momma" game.
4. Set up a movie corner
5. Feed lunch or snacks

I am a stay-at-home mother of a 9 month old daughter and a son who just turned two.  Ideally the best time to exercise is when they are taking a nap at the same time.  I try my best to make this happen daily by putting them on a schedule.  But, they are always changing and many days it just doesn't work that way.  If I can't get my kids to synchronize their naps I settle for just one.  When that doesn't happen and I have two children up I make due because I must stick to my exercise calendar. No excuses!

.
First things first, dress the part.  Mornings are crazy at my house.  It includes poopy diapers, barking dogs, a nursing baby and a toddler who doesn't like wearing clothes.  After the initial breakfast time madness I put on my athletic clothes.  Even though I know I can't exercise right then I get dressed so that I am ready when the opportunity arises.  This way when I put the kids down for a nap I don't have to spend 20 minutes getting dressed, looking for my shoes or pulling back my hair.

John reading a magazine in the nude

When I started the Insanity program Baby Edie was 6 months old.  She was the easy one.  She would stay put in one spot so I usually put her into her bouncer seat.  Shaun T. and the others on the video mesmerized her.  She would stare at me and then back to the T.V. and was content most of the time.  I tried my best to time it in-between feedings but many times I had to push pause on the DVD to nurse her and change her diaper.  I didn't let it get me down if I had to stop.  I tended to her needs and then made sure I went back to finish the workout.

Edie and Bigfoot helping me do my Brazil Butt Lift exercise

Now that she is older (9 months) she doesn't like to stay in one place for very long.  I let her crawl around and try to keep her occupied with toys.  This can be frustrating because she likes climbing up on things.  Whenever I do exercises on the floor she sees this as the perfect opportunity to climb up on me and grab my pony tail.  I try to keep her in a high chair with puffs for long enough for me to finish the ab workout.  Easier said than done.

If she is crawling around I take her to a spot furthest from me in the room, let her crawl all the way to me and then swoop her up and take her back.  I call this the "Crawl to Momma" game and I try to make it part of the routine keeping my heart rate elevated.

My two year old John is usually more difficult.  I know that I can only keep him occupied on one task for about 20 minutes maximum so I use different activity stations.  First is the movie corner.  I have a small portable DVD player that I setup and have him watch one of his baby Einstein videos.  When that doesn't hold his attention any longer I move him into the high chair and give him crayons and paper.  Then I feed him his lunch.  All three activities together give me about an hour long workout.  Although, the whole process takes longer than that because of the frequent stops to move him into a new station or make him lunch.

He too enjoys it best when I do floor exercises and sees it as the perfect time to grab his toy Jeep and drive it all over me.  Then, when he tires of playing cars he just lays on top of me.  It's not easy to hold plank with a two year old resting on you.  It is usually at about this time that my dog Bigfoot joins in the fun and cuddles up to me too.  I won't lie, sometimes I want to scream, other times a cry but most of the time it just makes me laugh when this happens.    I am still breaking a sweat and my kids see me trying.  I hope that they too see the importance of my dedication.

Amongst all this commotion I know that I don't exercise to my best ability or intensity but in the end does it really matter?  Whenever I get a chance to workout without kids interrupting me I seize the opportunity and give it all that I have. Sometimes I think back to how is was before kids and can't believe all the excuses I made to not workout.

My next 60 day challenge group starts July 1st.  E-mail me if you want to be a part of a small group of people supporting each other on their fitness journeys.  My current challengers are already seeing results.  You could have your dream body by Labor day.
